Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States of America, has launched her #Gimmefive Challenge to ask people what their five tips for a healthy life. Here are my five tips to live a balanced life:
1 – Get up. I try to keep to my routine and get up around the same time and get dressed. It gives my day a purpose, a direction to start with;
2 – Drink plenty. Obviously;
3 – Fresh air. Every single day I try to pop my head out of the window or kitchen door, or open the window for at least an hour to get some fresh air. Of course it is nicer to take a stroll through the garden and listen for singing birds;
4 – Eat your veggies. I am a food freak, but I can’t remember the last time I prepared dinner, it must have been over a year ago. Thankfully, my partner shares my dislike for any processed food, so he doesn’t mind preparing supper from fresh vegetables;
5 – Self compassion. This M.E. business just came out of nowhere and I know I cannot be blamed for this shit that hit the fan. So far it is not likely I can push it in the right direction. However, I can be kind to myself. Have you seen that funky nail polish Michelle was wearing? I might just treat myself to that.
It is unlikely that Michelle might unravel part of the mystery that is called Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, but perhaps Bill can. When his Hillary will be the president of the United States of America, Bill will be the First Man. And with the Clinton Foundation, which is mostly about women’s rights and health care, he just might dive into raising awareness and attention for research about M.E. Head first, preferably.
So Bill, let’s get going. Show us what a First Man might be able to achieve. We know you can do it. Yes, you can! And wearing of course a flashy blue tie that matches the funky nail polish.
